Tips for international students in the MDP
The MDP is a course open to all students, including international students. However it can be more difficult for international students to find suitable accommodation without the proper information and resources. Here are some tips from our current MDP advisors regarding finding accommodation and living in Dublin as an international student.
Avoiding Scams
One thing to avoid when looking for accommodation is scams. Scammers may post fake rental listings online, offering attractive accommodations at low prices. To avoid this, use reputable websites, verify the legitimacy of the listing, and never send money before confirming the property's existence.
Roommates
If you're sharing accommodation with roommates, try to connect with them before moving in. Discuss expectations, responsibilities, and shared expenses. Establishing good communication from the start can contribute to a positive living environment.
Booking Accommodation in Advance
It's recommended to secure your accommodation well in advance. On-campus housing often has limited availability, and off-campus rentals can be competitive. Start your search early to have a variety of options.

Reach out to alumni
There are plenty of international students from previous years who would be delighted to share their experiences from the MDP and to offer their advice on finding accommodation and living in Dublin. Check out the alumni yearbook on our website to reach out - https://www.mdp.ie/alumni-yearbook.
Transportation
Dublin has a well-connected public transportation system, including buses and trains. Consider getting a Student Leap Card for discounted fares. Many students also use bicycles to get around the city. Use apps such as Google Maps to navigate how you can commute to UCD Smurfit Campus.
