Author: Fiachra O’Roarke, Marketing Advisor (2021-2022)

The UCD Marketing Development Practice (MDP) is the right step for you if you are looking to excel in the world of business. Having the opportunity to learn and obtain experience from collaborating with clients on a variety of real projects across multiple industries provides you with the skillset that is needed in the current business climate. Not only does the MDP benefit you academically, it also develops skills that can be used in everyday life such as time management, organisational skills, interpersonal skills, communication and analytical skills.

Dress-code

The MDP’s dress code is both business casual and formal depending on the occasion. Business casual is generally worn most days in the office while formal clothing is worn for client meetings, presentations and networking events.

Computer Skills

Most of the time in the MDP is spent working from laptops. It is crucial to have a laptop with a functioning mic and camera. Certain applications used almost everyday in the MDP include Canva, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, OneDrive, Google drive and Salesforce. You should try to familiarise yourselves with how to navigate these apps. Doing this before starting the MDP will help you get off to a great start. Many of your future careers will include these applications, so why not get started early!

LinkedIn

The days of Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook will begin to fade when you enter the MDP, it’s all about LinkedIn nowadays. Having your LinkedIn profile properly set up with all sections filled in prior to starting the MDP will be a bonus. Don’t hesitate to connect with any current students or alumni!

Reach Out

If there are any questions you may have regarding the MDP, contact any lecturers, current students or alumni either by email or through LinkedIn, they would be happy to help. The MDP has a vast pool of alumni working in various industries across the world that have a lot of knowledge to offer.
